Milton Friedman - Why Drugs Should Be Legalized

“The war on drugs is a failure for the same reasons Prohibition was a failure… Just imagine if we could find some way for addicts to get their drugs cheaply, safely, and legally. The bottom would drop out of the illegal drug market. We’d see a huge drop in organized and violent crime.”-Jesse Ventura.

Governments spread their oceans of propaganda to tell you that drugs are inherently BAD. But fact is drugs have a risk to benefit ratio. If you give insulin to a diabetic it is beneficial, but if you give it an average person it has more risk because you may potentially overdose. Legalisation is probally the most rational and intelligent step foward to the approach on drugs but it seems to me other interests must be pushing foward their agendas to keeping the war on drugs alive and kicking.

Fact is the war on drugs is essentially a war on YOU.

  1. Extra tax revenue + most effective war against drug lords vs. potential irreversible social impacts. Dilemma.

  3. Marijuana is a no-brainer, but I'm not sure how I feel about hard drugs that are really harmful. I think there would be many benefits to legalizing heroine, for example, but somehow I doubt they would outweigh the drawbacks of creating heroine addicts.

  4. heroine addicts were created from criminalisation.. fact is with legalization, drug addiction would probaly go down because we would be offering therapy instead of jail time.
